The Hawks headed on the road this weekend to open up the season in a matchup against the Bemidji State Beavers.
With the season officially under way captain Luke Moberg opened up the scoring for UND with a shot from the point. The Beavers would tie the game up not long after with a powerplay goal. The Hawks would add another to the total before the end of the first period. The second period opened with a few more tallies for the Hawks. Bemidji would score late in the second to put them within striking distance. The third period opened with another powerplay goal for the Beavers putting them within one goal. The Hawks would burry a couple goals later in the third period to secure a 6-3 win in their season opener. Ayden Adair would record his first win of the season stopping 22 shots on his way there. Alexander Ossorio would pick up two goals in this game landing just short of a hattrick. Freshman, Evan Eberspacher scored his first goal in the ACHA to top of the night for Hawks.
Game 2 of the series was a different story. Bemidji would open the scoring with two quick goals midway through the first period. The Hawks would respond with two goals of their own later in the second period. The two teams would then trade a goal each in the final period of regulation. Heading to overtime tied 3-3, the Hawks were looking for a way to complete the sweep on the weekend. Their answer would come just a few minutes into overtime with a goal from Jackson Nelson. Oscar Lindemann picks up his first ACHA win stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced. Hunter Campbell would put his name on the score sheet adding another freshman to record their first ACHA goal this weekend.
UND walks away from Bemidji 2-0 on the season and look forward to repeating their successes next weekend when Williston State makes the trip to Grand Forks in the home opener for the Hawks.
